Are you tired?

Standard

Are you tired? Because I sure am. February tends to hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s that awkward in between month, where you still enjoy the calmness of winter but you are really itching for spring to get here. It’s the days when you forget what the sun looks like and frantically begin searching for the vitamin D tablets in the medicine bucket. It’s those days when you really don’t want to get out of bed, but the kids are begging for the 18th time to have some breakfast. Yeah, you know what I am talking about! While I am exhausted physically the thing I have been thinking about lately is spiritual exhaustion. I know what physical exhaustion feels like, constantly tired, not wanting to move, the intense desire to sleep, the occasional bad mood, lack of interest, etc. But what does spiritual exhaustion look like? Lack of interest in spiritual things, no desire to read and study, no talking to our Heavenly Father, becoming lazy about attending services, not preparing for Bible studies, etc. This is a bad spot to be in. Not only does it affect ourselves, it also affects those closest to us. Maybe our spouses, our children, or even our good friends. It is very easy to spread a negative attitude toward something, but a lot harder to spread a positive one.

The verse that always pops into my head when I start to get tired spiritually is Galatians 6:9 “and let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart”. What a motivator. A challenge for sure, not growing weary, but I have to keep my eyes focused on the prize! I am striving in this life for perfection, so that one day I can meet my God and Savior Jesus Christ! And what a day that will be, for sure.

So, if you are tired, if you are worn out, if you are ready to quit, remember- do not grow weary! Think of the reward. Run for the prize. And pray without ceasing!
